MY CANDLE LOOKS LIKE IT IS FROSTED! HELP IS THAT NORMAL?
YES
Frosting is a by-product of a natural wax and is caused by the growth of tiny crystals on the surfaces of the wax. All-natural soy wax will frost over time, but luckily frosting is solely an aesthetic issue and does not affect the way your candle burns or smells.
WHAT IS FROSTING?
After we’ve poured the soy wax into a jar and left it to cool down, we sometimes get a white crystal coating sitting around the sides or sometimes on top of the wax. This is known as Frosting and does not affect the quality of the candle.
WHAT CAN CAUSE FROSTING? IS IT A MISTAKE? CAN IT BE PREVENTED?
Unfortunately, frosting is almost inevitable with soy candles.
Frosting is normal and is a unique and natural effect of using vegetable waxes, especially soy. Soy wax mixed with oils naturally form frosting, especially when subjected to temperature fluctuations.
The wax is trying to return to its natural form and as a result it begins to crystallize. The soy wax will also “harden” throughout the course of its life, which also mean crystal structures will never stop forming (even if you can’t see them)
If your soy wax candle looks grainy or shiny, it’s due to polymorphism. Larger crystals produce the grainy appearance, whereas small crystals appear “shiny”.
What’s really important is that it doesn’t affect the performance of the candle in any way and means your wax is 100% natural.
